Hernández

I speak spanish, but don't speak hebrew.

Your explanation didn't convince me, so I started to think and look on my own.

First, Hernando is the spanish version of Fernando = Ferdinand. According to behindthename.com:

'The old Spanish form of a Visigothic name composed of the Germanic elements frið "peace" and nanð "daring, brave".'

So bold would be alright, but voyager?

Then the -ez suffix. According to many sources, this is a spanish ending corresponding to english -son.

And again to a number of souces, hebrew 'erez' doesn't mean son but cedar.

Ergo: Hernández would be the son of Hernando.
