Mike McTigue

Hello there, my grandmother Mary McTigue, was daughter of Daniel McTigue, brother to Mike McTigue the boxer, who was world Champion in the Twenties.
She told me that her parents tried to emigrate to the USA from Ennis, Ireland,but they only got as far as Ellis Island where the authorities would not let them into the States, as her mother had eye problems. So they shipped back over the sea to England and eventually settled in Sheffield, Yorkshire, where my grandmother was born in 1903.
I have photos of Daniel and family, and some of Mike, which I have inherited.

Grandmother told me that Mike won the world championship in New York in the Twenties, and eventually married the Mayor of New York's daughter. That is all I know, so if this ties in with any of your family tree please respond.
