Problems with research

Posted by John Schmal <Johnnypj@aol.com> on Fri, 27 Dec 2002, in response to Information, posted by Vorrie on Thu, 26 Dec 2002

Good morning: a problem with research is that sometimes people may have been baptized in a church in a nearby town. You might want to get a map of Guanajuato from amazon.com or somewher else and explore all the surrounding areas. Irapuato is the correct spelling of the one city and it is quite large. Check both civil records and church. Civil records will take in the entire municipio.

If your people came to the U.S. and got naturalized, try to get naturalization records. People have a tendency to say that they came from "so and so city" because it's larger, but the city they came from may be a smaller one a few miles away. So sometimes it's easy; other times it's frustrating and requires a little map research to get a perspective of the area.

Good luck.
