Cobian

Posted by Adrian Cobian on Mon, 07 Jun 2010, in response to history of name cobian, posted by SHELLEY COBIAN on Wed, 02 Jun 2004

Hello Cobians! I am just as confused and curious about the origin of our surname as the rest of you.
Well, to start, my paternal family is from Colima, Mexico. This state, along with Jalisco, contains the biggest number of Cobians. But, concerning the origin of the surname, I've read from several sources(and have been told by my dad's family) that the last name came from Asturias, Spain.
However, I've been constantly asked if I am Armenian or Middle Eastern, most often by Armenians or Middle Easterners themselves. This really got me thinking that maybe our name might have it's roots somewhere in those ancient lands.
