We are Everywhere!
Posted by Melissa Anzaldua <calypsoz@yahoo.com> on Fri, 04 Apr 2003, in response to Anzaldua, posted by Margarite A. Jenkins on Mon, 04 Nov 2002
Hi! I am originally from Mercedes, Texas. I live in the Rio Grande Valley(southernmost part of Texas) which holds a good number of Anzalduas. Our ancestors came from the Basque region from Spain and settled in the Rio Grande Valley where the cream of the crop are found in a small town known as Granjeno near Mission. There you will find Anzalduas Park, Anzalduas Dam and Anzalduas River which also runs on the Mexican side of the border. The last reunion we had was in 1984. Hundreds of Anzalduas from everywhere came...and I am sure there were many who were not aware of this gathering. My father and grandfather's name is Antontio. Anzaldua's are spreadout all over the small towns in the RG valley. I know of some in Muleshoe, Texas---they own the only Mexican restaurant in town. I am currently up here in the Lubbock area(you see how we spread out). Others relatives in Texas City, also other states...many. It is nice to know whenever we run into another Anzaldua, how there is such a need to know where we came from and that ALL Anzalduas are related. Email me. I'd like to know more about you.Responses
