ARANEDA Surname
Posted by Prof Fernando ARANEDA <araneda@educ.ar> on Sun, 01 Feb 2004, in response to Myriam Araneda, posted by Myriam Araneda on Sat, 13 Dec 2003
DEAR MYRIAM:By mere chance I just came across your query about our surname, ARANEDA. It is of Basque origin, oral tradition on my side of the family mentions the place we came from as "ARANETAKOALDEA" which existed around the year 1000 (of only God knows of what era...). It is also accepted that ARANEDA, ARANETA, ARANEGA and many other versions refer to the same family, our family! For me this explanation is good enough as Basques in general started to read and write I donŽt think before the XVI CENTURY CE, before migrating to America, first to Peru then to Chile early in the XX century to Argentina and later youŽll find us wherever you look for some of us, we are already a plague! Well as I really donŽt know if there is anything else you want to know and in that case let me know what it is and IŽll feel most pleased to be of whatever assistance I can give you.
I live in Cordoba Province in the Argentine Republic and if at any time I can be of help do not hesitate and drop me a few lines. Best Regards, FERNANDO
