Fimbres origin

My dad (Rafael Durazo Fimbres) was from Sonora and came to Los Angeles (where I was born) in the mid 1940's. He had 9 children, three were born in Mexico.

I did a little research into the Fimbres surname origin and was surprised at the results. Here's part of my finding.

The Fimbres family traces their ancestral roots back to the ancient territories of France between the eleventh and twelveth centuries, and first appeared in ancient medieval records in Bourgogne.

From very early on the Fimbres family not only held lands and estates in France but were also actively allied with other influential families. They also branched out into other territories and holdings, before taking the long voyage to the new world.

Bourgogne at that time was like a little nation between what is now France, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. It was settled by the German people Burgondis (hence the name). Burgondy (German), and Bourgogne (French) = Burgundy.

The name Fimbres most likely derives from "Cimbres" a Germanic-Celtic tribe from before 160 BC.

I sent for the family scroll which promises to give much more information. I'll keep you informed. Hope this helps.

BTW, my brother's name was Jose Fimbres.
