I'm so proud to be a Tijerina!

How neat! I'm so glad to see so many Tijerina's looking for answers to there ansestry. I was born and raised in McAllen, Texas. My father Guadalupe Tijerina, an only child was also born in McAllen, his father Salvador Tijerina, was born (1898) in Penitas,Texas, his father Manuel Tijerina, was from south Texas, exactly I don't know where. I wish I could go further back, but that's as far as I can go. I can tell you that my grandfather, (Salvador) had a brother named Manuel Tijerina, and a sister Rosa Tijerina Pineda, (Tia Chale) all lived and raised their families in McAllen. There mother (my great-grandmother) was Juana Pruneda Tijerina, she was from Texas, as well. (A very proud lady I might add). She, my grandfather, and Tia Chale, are all buried at La Piedad Cementery, in McAllen. I pretty well know the lineage from there, it's the early part of my heritage I'm intersted in. I would love to know any information as far as where the Tijerina, name originated from, or just any history behind it. I do know several years ago my Dad, found an article in The Monitor, (a McAllen newspaper)about a Tijerina, that came from Spain, in the 1600's to settle in South Texas, he was awarded a land grant from the King of Spain, he sailed to Cuba, traveled thru Mexico, and than settled here. I'd like to think the Tijerina's came from there. Who knows? Anyone, has any input to this or any information. Please reply. Thanks, Janie~Display message for printing | Print Entire Thread
