The Nuncio's saga.
Posted by Abraham Nuncio Limón <abraham_nuncio@hotmail.com> on Fri, 08 Apr 2005, in response to Nuncio, posted by Kim Nuncio on Fri, 03 Dec 2004
Hy, everibody,My name is Abraham Nuncio Limón, first son of my father's (Arnulfo Nuncio Gaona)second family; therefore, grandson of Abraham Nuncio Padilla and Josefa Gaona and grand grandson of Pedro Nuncio and Paula Padilla. All of them from the village of Galeana, southwards the state of Nuevo León. For what I've seen in this site there's a lot on Nuncio's looking for their family roots. The search is seducing. We might come either from Spain or Portugal, although the surname is linked to Italy, at least from its meaning within de Catholic church (the Pope's ambassador). Nuncio, on the other hand means the one who delivers the news. Arnulfo, my nephew, says his last records of the family's origin are from Portugal and Estella has made some research in that country. (Could you be, Estella, more explicit about what you found in Portugal? Thanks). Our family branch settled down in Saltillo, Coahuila, and Nuevo León (mainly in Monterrey, the capital of state). Where first?, I don't know. But I've found some people in Saltillo's Municipal Archives with our surname around the middle of XVII century. My hipothesis is that they went to Texas (originally, Texas, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas were a natural region and also an administrative one with the Bourbons by the middle of XVIII Century) because of the mexican revolution (1910-1917). Now our relatives live, as far as I know, in Texas, Illinois, California and New York (at least, Gabriel, my son, 25, a film maker). For me, our family's search started some three years ago, when a man, Zachary, married to Claudia Nuncio (living in US), wrote to me. The first results of this search led me to Lucy and Ana María Nuncio (Lucy is married to Bill Schyck) who also live in the States. Lucy came with his husband to Monterrey, where I live, and we had a great time together. She's Reynaldo Nuncio Armas' daughter. (The names of Pedro, Abraham, Reynaldo, Arnulfo and others repeat in several persons). Anyway, if you go to a small village in Coahuila by the name of San Antonio de las Alazanas, you'll find three streets with the names of "Pedro Nuncio", "Reynaldo Nuncio" and "Abraham Nuncio". They fought against the regime of Victoriano Huerta, who overthrew the legitimate government of Francisco I. Madero back in 1913. Huerta's army confiscated my grand father's hacienda (he owned it altogether with his brother Máximo) called "La Esmeralda" southwards Nuevo León. That's the reason they putted their names to those streets. There's another military man whose name appears in another street in Saltillo city. He was Jesús Nuncio. He fought against the french armies and the invaders commanded by McKenzie. The story of our family back in Galeana, Nuevo León, was written by a man called J. José Charles and was published by the Museo de Culturas Populares in Mexico City in 1885 (75th aniversary of Mexican Revolution). I'm planning to reedit it. If somebody is interested, the cost of every copy will be 2.00 US (minimum 50 copies). This will be by september-october of 2005. Lucy and my son Ariel are professional translators. So we could ask them if they can make the translation of the text into English and how much they would charge for this. To increase the interest for our branch family, I think, is to know more about our ancestors and ourselves. What we do, which are our interests, etc. Later on, in a file, I'll send to you a biographical note. I'm a writer and journalist here in Mexico. You can find something about my works and articles by searching in Google or some other browser. I hope we all keep in touch. Eventually we might work out to get together some place. Best regards.
Abraham Nuncio.
