Corrected data: John D. Hill

Posted by JB Hill <Blair_263@yahoo.com> on Sun, 03 Jan 2010, in response to John Hill of Amherst Co. VA, posted by Tom Hill on Thu, 24 Dec 2009

You are correct...I have indeed merged the files of John Hill, Sr of Amherst Co., Va. and John D. Hill of Amerst. This is what I have on John D. Hill of Amherst co., Va.
___________________________________________________
John D. Hill migrated from Amherst County to Williamson County bef 1803. He assigned his POA to Madison Hill (DNA Group 12) of Amherst County, son of William Hill and Susannah unknown. John D. Hill died during 1818 in Williamson Co., Tn. leaving 9 children. He married (1) (unknown) and (2) Nancy (?) who died ca/1832 in Williamson Co. Tenn. Children of John D. Hill:

a. Richard Joel Hill d/aft 1871 in Lake Co. m/ Media Jordan
b. John William Madison Hill
c. Washington Hill
d. Thomas Jefferson Hill
e. James Franklin Hill
f. Albert Gallatin Hill
g. Elizabeth (Betsey?) Hill
h. Rachael Hill m/Johnson Jordan
i. Susannah (Suckey?) Hill m/Josiah Wood
j. Richard J. Hill

My conjectures are that John D. Hill was the son of John Hill, Sr of Amherst Co., Va. and a close cousin of Madison Hill. One reason is that he named sons William, Madison, and John. Another reason is the POA that he gave to Madison Hill. A third reason is that he is listed as a tax payer in the same tax district of Amherst County where Madison Hill owned land and paid taxes. A fourth reason is that Lucy Hill purchased all the slaves at his estate auction. DNA comparison can disprove or support these conjectures by comparing the DNA of a documented male descendant of John D. Hill to the DNA of William Hill. See Hill Surname DNA Project, Group 12c.
