Bringier Name

Posted by William DuBourg Bringier <bringier@yahoo.com> on Sat, 29 Mar 2008, in response to Bringier name, posted by Jan Barker Alexander on Sun, 10 Apr 2005

I am Wm Bringier, The GGG Grandson of Marius Bringier who came to S. LA in the early 1780's. There were many Bringier plantations. As an 8-year ols in 1948 in Donaldsonville, La, I met Lizzie Bringier, a very proud elderly lady who at length told stories about the fact that "she worked in the house for the family before the end of the civil war". The plantation was the Hermitage, and my family gave her a plot of land and mall house very close to Hermitage. The meeting was because the Parrish (County) wanted to widen a road that would affect her minimally, but she told them "she wasn't going to allow anything until she talked to 'Mr. Val' - my father. There were others who chose the name? I know that many worked at the Bringier related plantations and I have never heard a bad word about treatment as slaves or a freemen. I soon moved to Texas, then spent half my life in LA & other half in TX...But LA is still my home! I have tried many times to contact other Bringier's, but never had a response. Well, it's part of my history and I'm proud that some have done well, (and some not - all families have that!). In any case my son and I are the last two descends of Marius Pons Bringier. I wish all luck in tracing there heritage as I was able to do from my early years.

Anyone with the surname Bringier, or related to one, is free to email me at Bringier@yahoo.com -- or call me in San Antonio at 210-682-4612.

William (Bill) Bringier
