Diemel surname
Posted by Eric Diemel <ediemel@web.de> on Tue, 07 Dec 2004, in response to DIEMEL, posted by ellen murray on Fri, 26 Jul 2002
The town of Diemelstadt is relatively new. It has been founded in the early seventies and consist of a collection of villages in the neighbourhood of the River Diemel.More important than Diemelstadt is the fact that most of the Germans with the name Diemel are located in Westphalia and that a majority of the Germans that came to Holland in the eighteenth century were Westphalians as well.
Franz Otto Diemel and his brother/cousin Gaudensius were born in Nederbergeheim. I just found out that a place called Niederbergheim is a part of the town of Warstein, Westphalia, in which you still can find the Hof Diemel.
Anyone who can give more info is welcome to add this here.
