Name Info

Posted by James W. Hoeber <Hhugu@aol.com> on Sat, 10 Jan 2004, in response to NAME INFO, posted by Salvatore Famania on Mon, 19 May 2003

Salvatore,
My wife is a Famania. Her family is from Panama. I have done alot of research on the origin of the Famaina name and have determined the following:

There are Famania families in Panama, USA, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Canada and some select spots in several South American Countries.

There is a town named Famania in the African Country of Guinea, named for or by Portuguese colonists. They were there in the 15th century.

There are also more Famania's in Portugal.

Although I have not made a direct connection, I believe the Famania name is Portuguese.
