Canyshel/Canyshell

Posted by Kate Henderson <kayannahenderson@aol.com> on Sat, 14 Mar 2009

My fourth great-grandmother was named Elizabeth Canyshell [?] b. circa 1812 in MD. Her husband (Nathan Smith) and she ended up in Athens County, Ohio prior to 1850. He was Irish so it's always been assumed she was, too. However, I have seen reference to her son saying she spoke German at home. Can anyone point me in a direction to investigate? She is my major dead-end.

Thanks!
Kate
