J.A. Wilson m. Elizabeth Young, John Albert Wilson m. Mary F. Carroll, John Thomas Wilson m. Hannah
Posted by Jennier Wilson <j8675309w@yahoo.com> on Fri, 28 Jul 2006
I am looking for information on J.A. Wilson. I knew he came from Tenn., and went to Texas eventually, and married to an Elizabeth Young. I also knew they had a son by the name of John Albert Wilson.I first found J.A. Wilson mentioned on the website http://www.ladytexian.com/txrusk/bios/family/youngjm.htm
He was born abt 1840 in Tennessee and moved to Rusk, Texas sometime before 1857(marriage records have him married to Elizabeth Young in Sept. or Oct. of that yr).
I looked at the 1860 census records and found him married to Elizabeth living in Rusk, Texas, and they had a 1yr old son J.A. Wilson (John Albert Wilson born abt November 2, 1858). John Albert Wilson married Mary F. Carroll, and they had quite a few children (listed on the census records and notes below I am following the John Thomas Wilson line). I could not find the birth record John Albert Wilson though.
I took the information I knew and followed Elizabeth Young/Wilson/Floyd¡¦s census records all the way to Arkansas. This is the J.A. Wilson I am looking for (All the names match up). Elizabeth had remarried by 1870 and was living in Tennessee with Mr. Floyd. I do not know what happened to Mr. Floyd, but she ended up in Arkansas, and John Albert is buried at the Social Hill cemetery nearby me. I would like to know what happened to his father J.A. Wilson and who his parents were. I feel like the J.A. must have stood for John Albert (because that was his sons name) but I have nothing to prove it. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.
Here is the information I have accumulated. I have tried to color code certain names, because it can get confusing.
Sources and Notes
Marriage Records
Elizabeth Young married to J.A. Wilson October or September 29, 1857 in Rusk, Texas (I found two marriage records on ancestry.com that had different months. I am assuming someone made a typo).
„X This source comes from two different records. Ancestry.com Texas Marriage Collection, 1814-1909 and 1966-2002, (Texas Marriages, 1851-1900 and Texas Marriages, 1814-1909).

„X The person taking the census must have listed all the children as Floyds and as being born in Tenn. for convenience because this is our John Albert Wilson. I found him again on an 1880 McNairy, Tenn census and he was married to Mary F. Their child was Adelia?, 2yrs. I am wondering if Samuel is Harmon¡¦s or J.A. Wilson¡¦s child. Many of Harmon¡¦s other children from his first wife was listed as living nearby them in the 1870 McNairy census records.
„X Harmon Floyd was also listed in an 1850 McNairy County, Tenn. Census record. It looks like he was married to Lucrecia. She was born in Tennessee. Their children were Sarah, 10, Ann, 7, Martha, 5, James, 3, Allen, 2, and Almeda?, 8 months. All the children were born in Tenn.

Rosetta Davis, 42yrs, is living with them. She is listed as being a lodger.
„X There is a William A. Wilson living by them. He was born in August 1880, 19yrs old and b. in Tenn. He is married to an Eliza and they have an 11 month old baby girl named Bridie. I am wondering if this is John A.¡¦s son. On the 1880 census John A. and Mary only had the two year old girl, Adelia E, but the census was taken in June of 1880 and William A. was not born until Aug. of 1880, so Mary could have been with child. I need to find an 1890 census to prove this or birth record.
