BLATCHER

Posted by Kim <kimblat2002@yahoo.com> on Tue, 05 Apr 2005

I am seeking information regarding these surnames LEWANDOWSKI, CIEMNA, BLATCHER and this family history below:

John LEWANDOWSKI married to Marianna "Mary" CIEMNA (unsure of correct spelling) who had a son named Joseph Thomas LEWANDOWSKI, b. 13 Jan 1900 in Philadelphia, PA. Joseph later changed his name to BLATCHER. Joseph Thomas was baptised in St. Stanislaus Church in Philadelphia, PA.

John had three children by his first wife, one daughter named Stella, b. 26 Oct 1897 in Philadelphia, PA. She later married a man named Frank JOHNSON and then James MITCHELL. It is reported that John LEWANDOWSKI also had a son named John Stephen, b. 02 Oct 1895, who also changed his name to BLATCHER and moved to NY.

John was married twice, his first wife leaving him with three children, then remarrying a woman named BLATCHER who had three children of her own, Frank, Anna, and possibly Joseph or Stephen. Together they had three more children, Mary, Veronica, and an unknown. Apparently, after his second wife, BLATCHER, died, John placed the BLATCHER children in a Catholic orphanage in Philadelphia. Joseph Thomas left home at a young age and changed his name.

It is believed that John was Polish and did not speak English. He may have left Pennsylvania and moved to New Jersey where it is said he had a pig farm.

LEWANDOWSKI is my husband's family. They are all from the Philadelphia, PA and NJ areas. I have no information regarding the CIEMNA name. My husband's family name is now BLATCHER and did not know otherwise until I discovered my husband's great grandfather John LEWANDOWSKI. If you have any information, please email me.

I also am in communication with other BLATCHERS, whom are unrelated to us, but are also seeking their ancestry.
