Bumbary vs Bumbray??

Posted by Louise <louise00bartlett@hotmail.com> on Mon, 04 Sep 2006, in response to BAMBURY FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCH (GENEALOGY), posted by MICKY KAY on Mon, 05 Jul 2004

My ancestors emigrated from Ireland to Montreal, Quebec, Canada in the 1800s (potato famine?). It seems they would have arrived in Montreal (mother, father and children) and shortly after the father (might have been a soldier) would have died (so many Irish died on Gross Island in 1847 as they arrived in droves in the St. Lawrence Seaway just outside Quebec City).

The family name is Bumbray, however I have not been able to find any Bumbray's in Ireland. Someone suggested to me that the name might have been misspelled when they arrived in Montreal and could have been Bambury.

Any help would be appriated.

Thank you.
