Balkwills from Devon

Posted by Brian Balkwill <brianbalkwill@hotmail.com> on Wed, 31 Jul 2002, in response to Balkwill's, posted by Don Balkwill on Wed, 31 Jul 2002

Hello Don,
Im glad to see someone else doing family history. I am a descendent of Richard Balkwill who immigrated to Exeter Ontario (then called 'Devon') in 1832. Today, I live 45 minutes southeast of this location. As for North America I would recommend Ken Balkwill in Nova scotia as the family historian over here. I am attempting to collect as much Ontario information as I can find.

I recently read about the Balkwill & Co. Pharmacists & Dispensing Chemists on 106 Old Town Street, Plymouth. I found information on boats that were built for Balkwill and Co by Vivian of Salcombe back to 1849. 15 boats in total were build for us. Do you have any information on this? must have been alot of drugs? It would appear the pharmacy was in business until WW2. I would love a copy of the coat of arms as well. Thanks. I guess the Balca-Wella explains why I have a thing for bridges.....
Brian Balkwill.
