Balkwill's

Posted by Don Balkwill <donsvery@happyhome.plus.com> on Wed, 31 Jul 2002, in response to Lineage, posted by Kevin Drew Balkwill on Sat, 15 Jun 2002

The name is from the Anglo Saxon "balca-wella" meaning "beam-stream" indicating a local surname for a man resident by a primitive footbridge of a tree trunk across a stream. The name is rare and denotes as you say a Devon ancestry, which is where I come from.

I have a coat of arms if you would like a copy
