' DURING THIS YEAR,THE LAST SHIP TO BRING SLAVES TO THE UNITED STATES,THE CLOTHILDE,ARRIVED IN MOBILE,BAY,ALABAMA." HAS ANYONE DONE ANY RESEARCH ON THE SLAVES THAT WERE ON THIS SLAVESHIP?   I was told by my aunts that my great-grandfather arrived from Africa on the last slave ship. And we have a photo of him. It would be interesting to learn more about the "Clothilde," particularly whether or not it listed the names of the captives.

I also have been interested in this subject. My understanding is that since the auctioning of slaves had become outlawed the african people on the ship were simply turned loose and had to somehow survive on their own with absolutely no assistance from anyone. As I understand it, many or all of them settled in an area of southeast Mobile near the bay that became known as "Africatown", and that many of their descendants still live in this area.
I would be very interested to know if any formal history of this event has been done. I think it is a remarkable instance of the resourcefullness of human beings in the face of unspeakable adversity.

    I have been researching my ancestors who were brought over from Africa. 2 brothers and 2 sisters. There names was Louis Dubose, Lee Dubose, Sally Dubose, and Eliza Dubose. My grandmother name was Janie Dubose and her mother was Sally Dubose. I would appreciate any new information in regards to the Dubose Family Tree.

      My grandmother was Annie Dubose and her father was Frank Dubose. I am looking for the offspring of Frank Dubose and Margaret Tate, born in or around Elberton, Georgia. I know they had 10-12 children. Some of their names are Sally, Elijah, John, and my grandmother, Annie.

Cudjo started Africatown now a part of Pritchard, Alabama.
Cudjo was from the Tarkbar Tribe.
There is a bronze bust in his honor in Bienville Square.

I am originally from Mobile Alabama and I hear that my decendents are from the ship with the last name of Louis or Lewis

  A man by the name of Cudjoe Lewis was on the ship Clothilde. He was the last African born person on American soil to be transported via illegal slave ship in the late 1850's. He did a few interviews regarding his experiences before he passed away in the 1930's. There is a marker to him outside of a church in Africatown- north of Mobile, Alabama. He was one of 110 Africans taken from present day Nigeria and Benin. You may be able to find more information on him by going to "Google" and typing his name.

I Minister in the Dove Foundation at the Wings of Life. We restore damaged lives and one of the Men here had a great great, great Grandfather on that last load of Slaves....
This needs to be tought here and understood. Around 1790 John Newton was a ships Captain doing this very thing,but through an incounter with Christ Jesus he was changed, HALELLUYAWEH!!!!!!!! h
