Cudjoe Lewis

Posted by Miranda <mirandadodgen@gmail.com> on Tue, 23 Dec 2008, in response to I would like to know answers as well, posted by Ronald on Sat, 13 Dec 2008

A man by the name of Cudjoe Lewis was on the ship Clothilde. He was the last African born person on American soil to be transported via illegal slave ship in the late 1850's. He did a few interviews regarding his experiences before he passed away in the 1930's. There is a marker to him outside of a church in Africatown- north of Mobile, Alabama. He was one of 110 Africans taken from present day Nigeria and Benin. You may be able to find more information on him by going to "Google" and typing his name.
