Find My Father Chrisopher Yapp

Posted by Cheryl <crclemons377@yahoo.com> on Fri, 12 Dec 2008

I am a thirty nine year young woman. I found out at the age of 32 that my grandmother on my father's side is a Geeche Woman. I had seen an old movie two years earlier at age 30 about a black slave man singing a song about a Geeche woman and for some reason that stuck in my mind. I now know why, its in my blood. I began to ask questions about the Geeche people and all I heard were bad things. My mother then told me the truth about my father and gave me a name Chris, and his mothers name also. I tried to locate them and seven years later I am no closer to knowing him, and He don't know I exsist, my mother never told him she was pregnant with me. I then began to loose intrest in knowing the Geeche people until two months ago I met a lady in jail, I am a Jailer in my county jail. This woman began to tell me things about my features resembling the Geeche people her people, Yes she is a Geeche woman. I shared with her the disturbing things I heard about our people and she reassured me that those things were so far from the truth about our people and how we are a proud people it made me hungry to know more. I found this site through my friend she did a presentation on the Gullah Geeche people and I told her that I was told my Grandmother is a Geeche Woman. Please help me find out more about my people.
