Hi Rosemary,
I hope I can help some. First was your mom adopted and legally? What organization did the adoption go through? There is something known as "non identifying information" that is legal for everyone who is adopted, to know about. She will have to go to the organization and ask them for this information, then they'll send it to her in the mail. The birth mother's name will be either whited out, or someone will have taken scissors and cut it out of the paper. Plus the organization likely has people on staff that will find the birth parents for you, for a fee of course, and likely have staff who act as a go between to help with Reunions. Most important is if your mother's motheris alive and if you can get info from her about the birth and adoption and hopefully birth mother. My daughter is adopted and I found her birth mother, just by using the non identifying information that she supplied to Social Services. It is very easy once you "know what you are doing":) I hope this helps some, let me know. Sue
