African American cemetery, Moore & Sturdivants

Posted by Jane Johnson <jjohnson@plcmc.org> on Mon, 13 Jun 2005, in response to Anson County,NC Genealogical Society, posted by Steve Bailey on Fri, 07 Mar 2003

One of our esteemed patrons who loves genealogy and history called today to make sure people in Anson County knew there was an African-American cemetery on the old Moore property on Hwy. 218, one mile out of Polkton heading north towards Charlotte, on the left hand side of the highway. The cemetery is behind the location of the old Moore home, which burned down. She is not sure if there is any evidence of the Moore home still left. This patron believes that Jack Studivant is buried there. She has a photo of him and 3 sons dated 1909. She is not sure of his death, but she and her family wanted to make sure that this cemetery was known. It possibly has 15-20 graves.
