E. Feliciana Parish

Posted by Jeaneene Nooney <jlnooney@hotmail.com> on Tue, 31 May 2005, in response to Plantation Name, posted by Carol Payne on Mon, 30 May 2005

Dear Carol,
East Feliciana Parish is up near Baton Rouge, and I am down here in St. Tammany Parish. However, I did a little poking around, and found out two plantations that you can start with.
Milbank Historic House
Oakland Plantation

Also, there is this site:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~laeastfe/eastfeliciana.htm

that you can cut and paste into your server. It has many genealogical resources that you can try. Most of the plantations kept very close written records of their slaves, and eventually you should be able to turn something up.

If you can find a local genealogy society in East Feliciana Parish, they will often do look-ups for free or for a small amount. (ten dollars or so)

The later census will list people of color, but not the early ones.

I wish you the best in your search. Let me know if you find your ancestor!

Sincerely,
Jeaneene Nooney
