Ashland

Dear Salann,I am a freelance writer who has moved here with my husband from Michigan. He works for Shell (Exploration and Production--not Shell Chemical--his position is not high enough to have any "pull" to make things happen). I would love to find out more about the house in order to do a newspaper or magazine feature on it--which may or may not "encourage" Shell Chem to do something about the place.
Any leads you could give me as far as people who were connected with the plantation, books that mention it, or other ways that I could research the Ashland home would be so welcome. I am currently living in Slidell, but would be glad to travel some to find answers.
I have a great concern about these old places. I have been amazed to come here and find that some of the great homes have been left to ruin. I understand some of the reasons, but would like to do what I can to draw public attention to the situation, and hopefully build concern enough to salvage at least some of those that remain.
I am so glad you took the time to write me.
Thanks again,
Jeaneene Nooney
