Lanier/Linear Family
Posted by Elizabeth Linear <blu_katt@yahoo.com> on Thu, 24 Feb 2005, in response to I am a Lanier family member, posted by Fannie Lanier's Great grand daughter on Wed, 04 Feb 2004
I have been searching for descendents of Eli and Emma Lanier of Tuskegee, Alabama for a long time. I have done some research and found that they are my great-great grandparents. They had several children, three of whose names were Willie, Lorenzo, and Johnnie. When these children started moving north, they began misspelling the last name. It went from LANIER to LINEAR, all the same letters, just the wrong order. Some of these children settled in Ohio and West Virginia. My grandfather, Willie James Linear settled in Everettsville, WV which is now part of Morgantown. He married Ellen Turner and they had ten children. Their names were: Melvin (who spelled his last name LANIER of Boston, now deceased), Robert (whereabouts unknown), Barbara Dickerson(Tacoma,WA), Raymond (my father of Memphis, TN), Delbert (Tampa, FL), Allen (Morgantown,WV), Willie (Morgantown,WV), Artha Mae Singleton(Everettsville,WV, now deceased), Richard (Everettsville, WV, now deceased), and Etta Hamilton (Akron, Ohio). My grandfather had one sibling that I know of, Lessie McCullough of Chesapeake, Virginia.
If your name is LANIER or LINEAR and you are African American, please contact. I am quite sure that we are related in some form or fashion. You can also write me at elizabeth.linear@cms.k12.nc.us
