Susan Butcher,Beaubet,,Beaube

Posted by Robert E. Beaube <robert@beaube.com> on Sun, 22 Aug 2004, in response to Susan Butcher Beaube, posted by Dot Brown on Wed, 23 Jun 2004

Jacques Beaubet was my ggggrandfather. James Beaube the 2nd was my grandfather. There has been consistant claims from the immediate children of Jacques and Susan that she was a Choctow indian. This seems reasonable since this particular tribe inhabited Mississippi and Alabama. They were quite dark in color. It is possible that a census taken in the 1800's would have listed her as mullato as Indians and Africans were considered to be social outcast. No definitive information about Susan Butcher has been discovered.
In his book, "LEES AND RELATED FAMILIES OF SOUTHWEST MISSISSIPPI 17OO-1995", Billy Gene Lee connects the Lee and Beaube family through Jacques and Susan. On pages 271 thru 294 exist the most complete documentation of the ancestory of Jacques and Susan that exist. It is conclusive regarding Jacques and non-conclusive regarding Susan. If you have not read this account, then you should try to get a copy of this book which was copyrighted 1996.
DNA studies have been done on the 5th generation removed from Jacques and Susan which indicates 85% Europeran, 12% American Indian, 2% Sub-Saharan African and 1% Asian. Again, I do not believe this to be conclusive.
Be that as it may, the more important fact is the Susan Butcher must have been a noble and strong person to have lived under the conditions of her life, and I am sure we Beaubes owe her our admiration and thanks.
