Cofield, Debrew, Farmer, Leigh, Batts, Mallory/Marrow of Edgecombe County, NC

Posted by Angela Mallory <angela_mallory@msn.com> on Sat, 22 May 2004

I am trying to learn more about my relatives. My maternal grandfather was Thomas Cofield, Sr., his mother was Betty (Debrew) Cofield and his father was Willie Hyman Cofield. My grandfather was born somewhere in the Halifax-Edgecombe County area. My maternal grandmother was Ethel (Farmer) Cofield. Her mother was Cora (Dickens) Farmer and her father was Lawrence Farmer. I am not really sure where they resided except in Edgecombe County. My fraternal grandmother was Beatrice (Leigh) Mallory. Her mother's name was Alice (Leigh) Williams, her grandmother's name was Alice (Batts) Leigh, and her grandfather's name was Addison Leigh. They are from Edgecombe County, NC, also. My fraternal grandfather was Ernest Mallory. Some of his family spells their last name Marrow. Ernest's parents were Izell Mallory and Miranda Suggs Mallory. Not sure of where they came from either. If anyone knows any information on these surnames in NC, please let me know.
