Kornegay name

Posted by Lisa <lme7173@hotmail.com> on Mon, 05 Apr 2004, in response to kornegay family, posted by milton kornegay on Sat, 27 Mar 2004

I am not sure if you found the answer to the origin yet or not, but I think I know the answer. According to previous research I have done, the name was originally "HORNIGH" which is German. The family from which the name "KORNEGAY" derived came from the Paletine region of Germany in 1704. I can't find the source of my info so I can't recall to where they came. I want to say Jamestown, but am not sure. I do know it was off of the Carolinas. Within a few years of being there, I believe, the entire family was killed by Indians except for the one son who I believe was about 7 years old. He was taken in a raised by a man, last name Miller (English for Mueller. As you can see the spelling for Kornegay came from Hornigh, and only one person, Stephen Kornegay had that name, therefore, all Kornegay's in this country are descended from this person.

Hopefully I will find the printed info. I had on this and could send you more info.
