Stemley name

I married into the Stemley family up here in Ohio. Here's some information I can share with you. In 1879,
Joseph and Marie Stemmelin came to the U.S. from
Rougemont-le-Chateau in the Alsace-Lorraine region of France. This is near the French/German border. They came with their 3 yr-old daughter Mary and a year later, brought their 6 year old son Joseph. The Stemmelin family first stayed in Russia (pronounced Rushie), Ohio with their sponsors, the Magateau family. They bought 20 acres near Rossburg, Ohio and on Oct 17, 1891, they "Americanized" their names and became Joe and Mary Stemley. Their only son, Joseph, married in 1900 and in 1913, he and his wife established the Stemley Canning Company. Stemley Canning remained in business as a family run company until the late 1990s.My father-in-law has traveled around the country and came across the Stemley name in Louisiana. He wasn't sure of how the Southern Stemleys were connected.
