Need any help

Posted by Margie <OtMrg@aol.com> on Tue, 02 Mar 2004, in response to Need any help...., posted by Starcia Cousar on Tue, 02 Mar 2004

Yes I need help.

My name is Margie and I am 61 years old. I have grandchildren you age. My family is also from Lancaster, SC and I believe that may be they may have lived in Chester and Sumter after the Civil War. I have been trying to find them after the Civil War. The name Cousar has other spellings such as Couser, Cousart, Cousert, Cowser, Cousar. However, Cousar spelling is most common amoung African American.

In my research, I have not found the name Golather Cousar. Do you know your grandfathers parents and sibings names? Do you know anyone in Lancaster or Chester who may be my age or older? If you have their names, may be I can make a connect. Their dates of birth and place of birth would help me a lot.

I have recorded many names from Archives. But I have not made many connections. After the Civil War, the Cousars move to different counties. Some changed the spelling of their surname which has caused me some problems. Since they did not read or write, the person recording the census may have been the cause of the different spellings.

My grandfather Willie P William Couser and my father, Willie P Cousar used different spelling. My mother says it was because of the mail.

My grandfather could read and write. He was born August 15, 1889. He was a tall. My father says that he was part Indian. However the census says that he was Mulatto.

I hope to hear from you soon.
Margie

PS: I also let a message on "another one of us".
