I'm helping my 10-year-old son research one of the Mississippi Indian tribes, and we have chosen the Choctaws. In surfing the web for nearly two hours now, I've discovered many things. I'm not a native (by birth) of Mississippi, but grew up in Hattiesburg. I've always known the story of Chief Joseph and the Nez Perce, and I am amazed to find out that the Choctaw, too, journeyed on that trail of tears. It is a very sad story in American history, and I know how difficult life on the reservations have been. I am happy to see that your present Chief is visionary in helping to bring economic stability to the area. I think my son and I will visit the cultural museum for the Choctaw people this summer.Display message for printing | Print Entire Thread
