re: AA WHEELDON surname

seeking any info re: origin on my maiden WHEELDIN name.
my ggrandfather WILLIAM L. WHEELDON must have been a slave who was born in SC in 1833.
in 1880 Wilmington NC census he was found w/wife CHARATA BROWN and children: Hagar, William, Emma, Sarah, Matilda, and John.
there is no trace of them in NC after 1880.
any help appreciated.
