bouldin heritage
Posted by williwm l bouldin <wbouldin@comcast.net> on Mon, 19 May 2003, in response to bouldin ancestors, posted by paticia wasington on Fri, 18 Apr 2003
I currently live in NH. My father Harley Claton, was born in Richcreek Va.and or Narrows Va. He had several brothers and sisters, most living to the ripe old age of 90+. My mothers name is Beulah Ester Brown of WVA with no living brothers or sisters.I have 2 brothers LOnnie L and Romie C of Va, as well as,2 sisters, Karen and Kay also of Va. The family left WVA in 1957 and moved to Arlington Va.Many Bouldins left his area and moved north, east and south. We were one of the first family's to release their slaves before and after the civil war. Many became prominent citizens in other states, such as senators, congressman, judges, etc. My own son is a congressman from NH.
Just a brief history of the family coming from England. In 1600 20 men left England on a ship named the tempest. This ship was financed by William Sheakspear and he later came out of retirement and wrote his last play and titled it the tempest!!! The 20 men landed in Va in 1600, 10 years before the James Town Settlement was established. Thoms Willian Bouldin married one of the lady's that servived the harsh winter in Jamestown and as they say the rest is history.
I can tell you that one of the Bouldin's stettled in Abline KN and became a pharmist, his wife a school teacher. She later taught President Eisenhower math in the 4th.grade. I had the pleasure of meeting her 2 years ago, 6 months before she past away at 96.She was living in Marcl Island Fl. Her daughter lives in Ma. and we speak often.
I have so much more to say if you are interested!! I must add this point. My wife and I own a condo in Bonita Springs Fl. While waiting for our plane to NH I heard my name paged. Going to the US Airlines paging area I told the lady that I was Bouldin. She said the Bouldin behind me was the one they were paging. I turned around and saw a very large black man. I went over and introduced myself and sure enough he was a Bouldin from Ronoake Va. His occupation was a DJ and his radio name was Golden Bouldin(playing songs from the past). We spoke for a few minutes and I haven't heard from him since.
One other point of interest. My fathers mother was full blood cherakee and we are trying to place Pocahunts as a relative. She died in England as the only American Princess ever appointed to that postition.
