Family Alcoholism Study

The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Family Alcoholism Study is reaching out to those with an interest in genealogy to help us find large families that have been affected by alcoholism to participate in a research study. The aim of this study is to locate the genes that may contribute to the development of alcoholism.

Do drinking problems seem to run in your family? If so, you may be just what we are looking for. We are seeking large families in which more than one member has had a problem with alcohol, and would like as many family members as possible to participate. At minimum, we need one alcoholic (past or present) and at least one of their siblings or both of their parents. The study can be completed by telephone and mail and takes about 4 hours of time. Each participant receives a financial compensation of $30 - $50 depending upon time and effort required to complete the study.

If you are interested in participating or would like more information, please call toll free 1-888-805-UCSF(8273) or visit our website at http://egcrc.ucsf.edu/alcoholgene (2006 - Link Invalid). All information is kept strictly confidential.

Sincerely,

Jodi Cornell
