School Censuses

Did you know there was a School Census? I found information on this in "The Source". [Szucs, Loretto Dennis, and Sandra Hargreaves Luebking, Editors.  The Source: A Guidebook of American Genealogy, Revised Edition.  Salt Lake City: 1997.]

School Censuses
Traditionally, school censuses have been taken to ensure that local facilities and teachers are adequate and to plan for future appropriations. These schedules count the children of school age. Some lists are in family units with parents' names included. Some list children with ages only.

Here's an example of the school census (included by permission of the Editors of Ancestry, Inc.)

Also folks, let's not forget those Old School Yearbooks. Some go back as far as when they started pics in colleges. You can either view them in the local libraries in the schools, or the towns where the schools are. Or, write to them, most are willing to help find them and copy for you at minimal cost.

Good Luck!
