One
source of information on people
is school records. Modern
records may contain quite a bit
of information if the schools
retained the records. There can
be information about parents,
residence, photos, curriculum,
and even immigration information
in the files. If you're looking
at public school children, there
may be references made in school
board and town meeting records.
College
and University records can be
even more complete. When a
person applies to college, he not
only lays out his life but also
includes a lot of financial
information about his parents
that can tell you a lot. College
and High School Yearbooks can
give you some more insight and
pictures of your
ancestor.
Some
fun information we were able to
find on one of my relatives was a
folder full of notes from home.
Her mother wrote some great
excuses for why she missed days
at school. It appears that she
used to use the occasion to
practice her literary skills.
These were not great for
genealogy but were a lot of fun
to read.
If
you want to put more meat on the
bones of ancestors, look up these
records.
