Mid-Atlantic SIG

The Mid Atlantic Team is working to get much data to the internet and in the GenealogyForum Library Resource Area.

We do a large newsletter every six weeks, because of it's size, we decided to go to the internet for distribution. GFSWillM@aol.com was kind enough to do us up a Mid Atlantic Site for Mid Atlantic Data for us to post the newsletter and other data about the Mid Atlantic Region. It is my hope that this site will reflect data that is informative, and carry little known data about places and people. NY SIG is restarting the series of development of the counties in order of birth. Our first one will be Oct 1. Friday evening .. Root Cellar 9-10 pm ..

We will also share other data as before. These talks are short but very informative for research purposes. They tell of what is available and where to find it. We will repeat these talks in the morning group of Mid Atlantic chat as we see it is okay with the room.. Albany Co is first County..

The NY SIG on Tues. mornings 9 am Root Cellar combined with MidAtlantic chat will also cover this data.

PA chat is developing a new format for dispersement of data. We will be rotating our talks about development of state and the forts and migration data. Chester County will be first county to be discussed. It also will be done on Oct 1.

We will also be looking at the various religious groups in PA the months of October and November... a mini talk will be given at 10:30 or so and the other at 11:30 pm. The religious talks will be broken into segments because of the amount of data.

The morning chats will have also have talks but again remember we keep them very short.. and run in mini series..

We want everyone to have fun, learn and further their research by attending our SIG's.

Maryland/DE SIG by GFSJayne@aol.com and GFSTEG@aol.com is also very informative. Their time is Thursday evening Root Cellar 8 pm eastern.. They also field questions for WDC as well. Remember Maryland claimed the lower almost 1/4 of state of PA as theirs, so records can be found on both sides of border.

WVA/Va is hosted by GFSWILLM@aol.com and is held Wed afternoon. Root Cellar, 7 PM Eastern Time. We cover WVA as Mid Atlantic and VA as partial Mid Atlantic because almost a hundred years of records for PA are in VA archives.

This area being claimed by VA long before PA activated an interest. A Virginian did not want to live in PA :) because taxation and land process was so different and more costly. After division was made people still resisted til 1800. I did find one record as late as 1805.
