More then two years ago, I made up a page for Memorial Day. I received a very good response from many folks in the forum. Who's names you will find on it, or their Ancestors. One person asked me why I would even think of doing such a thing...you are so young! You grew up during Vietnam Era with all the controversy? I will help you with that question.
When Saigon fell I was only a Jr. in High School, yep one of the last of the baby boomers....So I did not get the exposure that a lot did that are older then me. This left me to form my own ideas without much Peer pressure.
I come from a family that has a history of Military Service. I recall my Grandmother having 5 Stars in her window at one time.....I was proud of each and every one of those stars as I still am. Each Star represented to me an Uncle or an Aunt who cared enough and loved me enough to do a job that I really am not sure that I could do.
My Great Grandfather and his Son stood a Concord together, history in this branch of my family made it possible that none of them where in the Civil war, generations fell just right that the men were either too old or too young. World War I finds again cousin and Uncles serving when called and the same can be said about World War II, The Korean Conflict, Vietnam, Desert Storm...yes even Desert Storm, many of my cousins have followed in their parents footstep to guard our back doors in time of peace, even as I write. It was for them that I wrote this page, a Thank You and Tribute to their Love of Country and Family. They that cared enough to give the very best, themselves, whether or not is was thought of as the right thing to do.
If you would like to check out the page it can be found at Thank You (Link Inactive 6/27/2004) !!!! Care to add names to the pages please let me know I will more then gladly post your family member as well. Each and every one of them are Hero's whether they lost their lives or not. Let me add there are many unspoken Hero's and I think the Poem on my page written by Doxart explains it best.
To Each and every one of our Vets Thank You !!
Julie
