Hallo from Germany!
This article is about genealogy at AOL Germany.
So far you could find genealogy at AOL USA and AOL France. Now you can also find it AOL Germany. Here is a short story how we began:

When I started to use AOL here in Germany in spring 1997 it took a few weeks for me to find out how it works. AOL offers really a lot for all kind of interests and I was overwhelmed by this big choice of information, I suddenly could get. One day I wondered if there are some other people who do genealogy on AOL and started to search. For researching them I used the german word Ahnenforschung. I was surprized to see that my research was positive and I could find a lot people researching their ancestors. Chatting with them I could find out they were interested to meet other genealogists, too, and that they would like to exchange their experience. But till this point of time there was no place where we could meet :-(

About this time I also found the genealogy-forum at AOL USA. I was glad to find a place where other genealogists could meet and also talk about their german roots. Now, knowing this great place and the fantastic offer of Chatrooms, messageboards, resource centres I decided to start a place where people can meet at AOL Germany. In the meantime we have managed to open a chatroom and also a pinboard.

Here I would like to say THANK YOU to all our friends from AOL USA who have helped us during the difficult starting time and still help us with their advice :-)

This Chat takes place every THURSDAY 3pm east coast time in the room called Leute-Forum. Don't be afraid to ask in english, we always like to help with translation :-)

Among the topics at this section of the board you will also find an English introduction.

If you like to enter your names for researching you can also write in english. Some american genealogist already have had positive responses. :-)

Also you can make a download of the logs we make from the chat:

There you will find a lot of different things (unfortunately not only genealogy, as we are only guests in that forum), among them the logs.

The German word for log is "Logbuch" in connection with the date of the chat. If this log contains a ROLL CALL (which might be interesting for you) you will read it in the title, too.

We still work on improving the genealogy program. There are a lot of things to do. About all changes that might come in the future we will tell you in this newsletter. :-)
