The FRENCH Genealogy Chat is More Than FRENCH!!! Many folks could be confused by the title of one of our chats - the FRENCH Genealogy Chat! It seems that many people have mistakenly believed that this chat is ONLY for either ancestor research in FRANCE OR those who speak FRENCH! Well, IT'S NOT!!
The French Chat on Thursday nights, 9 pm eastern in the Golden Gates Room , is for anyone with an ANCESTOR who spoke FRENCH! Ancestors who spoke French might come from, certainly, France or Quebec or Louisiana.....but also Belgium, Switzerland, other locations along the US East coast, and many locations throughout the Midwest - Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota - as well as most of the provinces of Canada. There were, and are, also French-speaking cultures in the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, and Africa! Descendants of French-speaking ancestors populate the ENTIRE WORLD!!
So, if you believe that "maybe" one of your ancestral surnames could have come from a French-speaking region, please join us (GFS Judi, GFS Mar and GFS Donna) in the FRENCH Genealogy Chat on Thursday nights at 9 pm eastern in the Golden Gates Room.
ALSO, NO, we do NOT speak French in this chat! Yes, many of us would like to, but no we don't in the chat. Now, yes,sometimes we go off greeting each other with the occasional "bonjour" or "bonsoir".....but it is NOT the language of the chat! We would like to welcome ALL researchers who believe they have ancestors from the French-speaking regions of the world, whether those ancestors moved to Arkansas or Montreal, South Africa or Australia.....please come and chat, one and all!!
