Ship
Passengers and Names

In researching some of my early Jamestown ancestors, I tend
to read all the big and obscure books on the times and
place. One I found: Historical Background in American
Colonies, (sorry lost my cover sheet with author and
publisher), in chapter 11 had the following entries that may
be of some help to anyone researching WRIGHT families of
Virginia. These were not my WRIGHTS (YET), but the
information to be found in books like this is unbelievable
and should be shared.
Robert Wright age 44 came in 1608 and settled in James City,
he is referred to as "an old planter". He survived the
Indian massacre of 1621. There is no ship name for him.
John Wright age 20 was passenger on ship "Ambrose", 1623
John Wright age 21 passenger on ship "Alice" from London to
Va Jul 1635.
Richard Wright age 23 on ship "Safety" Aug 1635.
William Wright age 18 on ship "Assurance" London to Va Jul
1635.
Another interesting tidbit, which I took to mean they went
from Va to NY or Carolinas.
Tickets granted, Robert and Mary Wright in the Ketch
"Beginning" for NY 3/19/1678. Richard Wright in the Ketch
"Mary and Sarah" for Carolina.
They didn't just have witchcraft in New England as shown
below.
"Before a court held the 11th of September 1626 appeared Lt
Giles Allington, a member of the London Company of VA. And a
substantial citizen of the Colony. By his testimony he
accused "good wife" Joan Wright of witchcraft. She was the
wife of Robert Wright aged 44 in 1624-1625, who came in the
"Swan" on 1608." It goes on to tell that his two children
were born in America and they had lived in Elizabeth City
but had moved to Surry Co. She was found guilty but only
fined 100 lbs of tobacco.
This chapter also lists many more and their ships early
1600s.
