MUGS AND HUGS

Submitted by GFS Nance@aol.com

We are a morning chat that DearMYRTLE started as the Hot Apple Cider group. Then in the summer we were the Lemonade group. Pat had to give it up for all the other things she is doing including her articles and teaching classes, so she turned the 9:00 to 10:00 am chat over to me. I got GFS Joe, GFS Cindy (who has now gone on to other things) and GFS Loni to come in with me. After a while we had the attendees name the chat and they came up with MUGS & HUGS. Very appropriate because they wake up, bring in a pot of coffee for everyone and hugs for all the attendees. We are a family chat and give hugs to everyone that comes in and we all try to help those of all ages, especially in the summertime when some youngens come in and need help. We are a very laid back group,(so laid back that we sometimes fall out the back end of our rockers), meaning you never know what we will talk about.

At holiday times we do VIRTUAL CHRISTMAS or whatever holiday time it is. Sometimes we go back in time. For example, in the beginning of VIRTUAL, we went back to the years and homes of my ancestors and how they lived and celebrated that event. Then we would have guest guided tours like VIRTUAL TOLEDO LUCAS COUNTY LIBRARY or VIRTUAL SPRINGFIELD CEMETERY. I took them around our local cemetery. Flicka did a guest guided VIRTUAL OF A FUNERAL HOME and several other interesting tours. Last October, several of the group did a VIRTUAL HARVEST MOON DINNER DANCE and a VIRTUAL HALLOWEEN where everyone came in costume (a different screen name and some we never figured out who they were LOL).

We invite any of the hosts to come in their hats and there are times when Joe and Loni and I cannot make it so they take over for us like GFS Suzanne or GFS Hope or GFS Jayne. Everyone helps everyone there. We enjoy each others company and if someone has not been here for a long time they are welcomed back.

Last but not least I have two mail lists that I send out. The main one is naturally called MUGS & HUGS Mail from Nance, which contains Genealogy goodies, good Clean jokes, stories and poems and inspirational mail. We do not send anything that is not acceptable or disrespectful to any sex, religion or creed. No politicking. I don't send snowball fights, links that don't have to do with genealogy, no mail that says you have to send to so many folks. If I see something that has a nice thought, I will send that, but delete the sentences that say that they must send it on to all their friends. I also send no virus warnings because some are scams and no forwarded mail. I try to always identify the author of things I forward. If I see anything from Pat or my cousin John Shepler that I think is interesting I ask their permission to send it on to my mail list. Everything I send is copied and pasted to the mail form with this signature:

MUGS & HUGS Mail from Nance

Mugs & Hugs Email subscriptions;

E Mail from Hugs & Mugs is clean jokes, poetry and sayings that are appropriate for family and children. You can subscribe to the mail list when you attend a chat in Mugs & Hugs and receive a MUGS & HUGS as a new attendee. To unsubscribe to the list (even if only temporarily because you are going away) please email me with Unsubscribe in main part of emailing and address it to: GFS Nance@aol.com

There is also my MUGS Mail of Genealogy Goodies from Nance, which is all Genealogy. Links, any ideas or resources that come my way are sent to this list. I do not send my mail out any certain time of day or week, but when I get enough to put in the mail instead of just one little bit. This applies to both mailing lists. The Mugs Mail comes with this signature:

MUGS Mail of Genealogy Goodies from Nance

"MISSION STATEMENT: To serve all genealogists by providing an enjoyable online environment with as many helpful and reliable resources as possible"

I hope this help describe our MUGS & HUGS chat. We are a very diverse group from all over the country and world. We hope you join us Monday thru Friday at 9 AM EST in the Ancestral Digs Room....and bring a mug!
