ENGLAND Capital: London
Submitted by GFS Rhonda@aol.com England Special Interest Group, Monday nights 10 PM EST in Golden Gates Conference Room, is a great bunch of English Surname researchers!! Attendees new and old, hopefully come away with at least one tip for furthering their research. All questions and research problems are (hopefully) attentively answered either in the chat or by email if further information and look ups are detailed. Because of the history of the British Isles, it is very hard to connect in England SIG, but we do have connections. Maybe not in the distant past (1800's), but many come in the older ancestral names from the medieval times to the 1600's prior to the Mayflower connections. Hosted by GFS Rhonda assisted by GFS Maria, we hope to help those researching in England (and from time to time we do take on Wales also with help from attendees). Lots of web site addresses, Record Office addresses, and tips on how to continue your research in England is provided. New researchers are always welcome. Although not always available during the chat, volumes of research materials can be searched for those "brick wall" ancestors by GFS Rhonda. It is throughly helpful if all research in the US or Canada has been done before attempting to research in England, though some "Buts" do apply, such as Home Children, Emigrants in Chains, Transportees, and some Military Service Personel. Those subjects are always welcome and research tips and aids suggested for further research. Beginning on February 14 GFS Rhonda and GFS Maria announce the start of bi-weekly mini chats : ) Starting at the 1/2 hour and for only a few minutes, these mini topics will help research in England. February 14 will be a quick review on "Getting From the US and Canada to England ......(how to determine you're really descended from English immigrants)" to be followed on February 28 with another quick topic on "When You've Determined You're Really Going Back To England With Your Ancestor......." These mini talks will not take longer than 5 minutes with protocol requested for that time but free time for questions and follow-up in the remaining 1/2 hour. Future topics will include but not be limited to: Origins of Surnames Tracing of Common Surnames County Record Offices Parish Records Military Occupations and Guilds just to name a few..... We hope to continue the quick talks for a long time to help all types of research from recent to early including older records such as Manor Rolls and Records and Medieval Times. Talks will be every other week, on 4 week months. : ) We hope all those with ancestors in England will visit and join our group, Monday nights, 10PM EST in Golden Gates.
