The American-Canadian Genealogical Society in Manchester, NH, turns 25 in September and we have an action packed weekend planned for you at the Tara-Wayfarer in nearby Bedford.
Friday evening is a Soirée with the charming Josée Vachon (sing-along, foot stomping fun);
Saturday from 8-4 will be our workshops; and Saturday evening is our awards banquet - koodoos to all our volunteers, a big thank you to our co-founders and lots of fun and reminiscing.
Our speakers are:
Alain Allard, LDS Northeast Director - overview of their filming projects in Quebec and Northeast US.
Robert Chartrand - researching in Quebec
Brenda Dougall-Merriman - researching in Ontario
Walter Hickey - NY Arrival Passenger lists at Nat'l Archives - Pittsfield, MA - a treasure trove of "good stuff."
Andre Gousse - the regiments of New France
Betty Le Maistre - researching the Channel Islands
Sylvie Tremblay - acreditation in Quebec - how far reaching is it?
Stephen White - researching the Maritimes (and MAYBE a book signing of his new, soon to be released, Dictionary of Acadian Families).
All three events just $85 US if registered on or before Aug. 15. $100 after the 15th.
Individual event prices also available. Send your Postal address if you would like a brochure/registration sent to you.

Do you have roots in Prince Edward Island, Canada? If so come and visit the "Prince Edward Island Surname List" homepage at:
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/4835/index.html (Historical Link Removed - Page not located)
The site is more than six months old and it has come a long way since I started it in December. The first day of operation I had four names on the list, today there are over 1,600 surnames listed. If you have not been to the site yet stop by and see if any of the names that you are researching are there and feel free to send in the surnames that you are researching in P.E.I. If you have visited the site but not for a while, come back and look through the surnames, perhaps the surname(s) you are researching have been listed since your last visit.
Come by, check it out and send in your names. This could be the break that you've been looking for in your search as many people have had great success through this site and you might too.

An event celebrating the landing of the "Alexander" passengers, known as the Glenaladale Settlers, included genealogy sessions, lectures, a ceildh, garden party, and a dinner/dance.

Maine Chatters Will Meet
Aug. 14 in Monmouth, ME
From: GFS MAINE
Maine Chat Room regulars will be meeting their host on Aug. 16th in Monmouth, ME. Many of the members of the Chat room have been together on line since it started, GFS MAINE is the host and it was suggested since he will be in MAINE for the month of August for several Family reunions that we get together for a face to face meeting.
One of the members Rgraymond agreed to host the gathering and another member is doing a Surnames listing ...several folks are coming from out of state including GFS MAINE, who lives in Idaho.
Maine Chat Room is open every Saturday evening at 7 PM Eastern in the *NEW* ROOTS CELLAR Room.
If you are in that area and have an interest in Maine history and genealogy, contact GFSMaine or Rgraymond. Here are their food options for the event:
Please choose one, let Rgraymond@aol.com know immediately and send in your money before Aug. 5. Refunds can be made for emergencies until the 10th.
Coffee, paper goods, and eating utensils will be provided. Everyone should provide their own beverages, other than coffee. The amounts are per person and need to know for sure how many are coming with you. The more the merrier!!!
Option 1: chip in $2, bring a dish to share and eat all potluck food and Italian sandwiches ......no lobster or clams.
Option 2: chip in $5, do not bring a dish to share and eat all pot luck food and Italian sandwiches......no lobster or clams.
Option 3: chip in $10, bring a dish to share and eat everything including lobster and clams.
Option 4: chip in $13, do not bring a dish to share and eat everything including lobster and clams.
So far for "pot luck" we have baked beans!!!! several salads, blueberry cake, watermelon, and some "munchies". If you are bringing a dish, please let me know what you are bringing, even if you have told me before, so that I can see if there are needed items no one is planning to bring. The "chip in money" will cover Italian sandwich ingredients, paper goods, and the lobster for those who are having it.
As you all know lobster prices can be variable...as can clam prices and availability. One good red tide and the clam supply can vanish and prices hit the roof. I will try to have both lobster and clams and as prices are now, it looks good, but in a few weeks things could change.
Otherwise things are turning out well. Everyone seems to have found places to stay and one of my big worries, having enough seating, has been solved. A neighbor has four picnic tables we can use. With the patio tables and chairs I had already located there should be no problem with that. Mosquitos haven't been a problem until after about 5pm. The birch tree that cracked in the ice storm and fell on the patio a few weeks ago has been taken care of.
The back yard now has a fenced area for my enthusiastic puppy so she won't knock you over trying to love you to death. We have gotten the scanner hooked up and will get photo quality paper and a new cartridge for the printer today. Have six reams of regular paper ( LOL), as the scanner can double as a copier. I will set up my large hutch table in the big living room so Jim can put out a chart to share with us all.
Reminding you too, that the Scottish Games will be at Thomas Point Beach in Brunswick on Saturday. Several of us will be going, and they usually have a booth set up to help folks searching their Scottish roots. The Theater at Monmouth will be having evening and matinee performances also and have the schedule now for any who want one.
If you have not been able to get you lines in to Izeena, it would be very useful to use her format to do a summary of your families and bring it with you. I would make it much easier to make connections. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions ...please write.
Look forward to meeting you.

Summary: The present day Mi'kmaq reside in these geographical areas,
includiung Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, and the
Gaspe peninsula of Quebec, though some scholars believe that the Mi'kmaq
occupancy of the Gaspe may have been more recent than in the other
areas. [Photograph of Miq'maks of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in 1860 in

Searching for PRAUGHT Surname
From: Edkelley1 Edkelley1@aol.com
I am trying to locate my ggg grandfather's roots. He was a Loyalist who was given a land grant in PEI (Lot 50) after the American Revolution. His name is Frederick PRAUGHT and he was a member of Hayden's Company of the King's Rangers which was formed in Old Monmouth County, NJ.
I believe he was of German descent and anglicized his name to PRAUGHT. The KING'S RANGERS website has no information other than a mention of him in a muster roll and they spell his name PROUGHT and/or PROUT.
Are there any archives in the UK or Canada that I can write to for more information on him?
Thank you, Ed Kelley
