Pennsylvania Court Records

1664 - Present: Courts of Quarter Sessions of the Peace are county-wide courts that keep files on criminal cases, roads, taverns, and peddlers.

1683 - 1707: Provincial Court was the Appellate Court until replaced by the Supreme Court. Some records have been transcribed in Minutes of the Provincial Council of Pennsylvania: From the Organization to the Termination of the Proprietary Government (1683-1775), 10 vols. (Philadelphia: The State, 1851-2).

1707 - Present: Supreme Court is a statewide appellate court with jurisdiction over all types of cases.

1707 - Present: Courts of Common Pleas have county-wide jurisdiction over criminal and civil cases including real estate, bankruptcy, tax collection, naturalizations, and divorces.
