These are the mailing addresses of various archives and libraries that are of genealogical interest in Spain. It is not intended to be exhaustive. All the records are in Spanish. One should always address a Spanish open letter of inquiry first to determine the cost of various available services. NOTE: This archive has some of the oldest legal, royal and ecclesiastical records in Europe, many dating back to the 11th century.

NOTE: This archive has military, judicial, tax and royal records from 1545 to the present.

Archivo Historico Nacional Directora: Concepcion Contel Calle Serrano 115 28006 Madrid, Spain Tel: 91/ 563 59 23
NOTE: Founded in 1866, this archive has indexed genealogical records from the 15th to the 19th century.

Archivo General de Indias Director: Pedro Gonzalez Avenida de La Constitucion Sevilla, Spain Tel: 95/ 422 51 58
NOTE: This archive is invaluable to early West Indies research, having over 14 million reports on military and land discoveries from the New World (colonial Mexico) and the surrounding areas.
