Genealogy Programs Produce Forms
Beginning genealogists will learn to use the following basic forms:
Family group sheets - list parents, and their children, with information about birth date/place, marriage date/place, death date/place, as well as accompanying notes which we refer to as documentation.
Pedigree charts - start with one individual and includes parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, etc. in a lineage format detailing relationships for a specified number of generations. Brief information concerning birth/place, etc. may also be included with these direct ancestors' names.
Descendent lists - start with a distant ancestor, listing the names of all children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and so forth, for a specified number of generations.
The staff members of the Genealogy Forum are often asked to provide copies of blank forms for downloading. This is no easy task, since there are many types of computers using different database and word processing programs. More importantly, we'd be doing you a disservice to encourage the use of anything other than genealogy programs to manage your family history database.

We recommend investigation of genealogy programs suitable for your computer setup. Most programs not only have the ability to print these and many other useful forms, but provide a way to share your acquired information with other researchers in a GEDCOM file format. Instead of printing out a pedigree chart and accompanying family group sheets, you can send the same information in GEDCOM (generic) format on a floppy disk so the another individual can import the information directly into his/her genealogy program without having to type all the information in by hand!
