Abolitionist Involvement: Those who assisted fugitive slaves were dealt with harshly. Green, a clergyman, was suspected of aiding escapees, and his home was searched. Although no evidence of fugitives was found, Green was arrested, tried, convicted and sentenced to ten years in prison for the possession of a copy of 'Uncle Tom's Cabin.'
